Afzal Ahsan Randhawa

Afzal Ahsan Randhawa (1.9.37) A Punjabi fiction writer from western Punjab was born in Amritsar to Iqbal Begum and Sarfaraz khan. He got married to Ayesha.

He has been practising lawyer and politician. He was also elected as Member Pakistan National Assembly in a by-election from Layalpur (1972-77).

Afzal Ahsan Randhawa is a Punjabi poet , short story teller , novelist , radio/television playwright and a translator. He has also rendered a selection of African poetry into Punjabi. His fiction has a deep connection with the roots of Punjabi culture and folklore. He portrays the excesses of feudal lords and man-woman relation in his works. His many works have been transcribed in Gurmukhi as well and published in eastern Punjab too.

He was awarded by writers' guild Pakistan for his Deeva te Darya (1961) and Doaba (1981). He was also awarded by Iapa (1986) and Punjabi Academy of Letters (1985-86). Punjabi Sahit Akademi, Ludhiana awarded him Kartar Singh Dhaliwal award (1999).
