The book presents an account of seven battles from there wars-the war in Kashmir of 1947-48, the Indo-China war of 1962, and the Indo-Pakistan war 1965. In each the author’s story is different from official version. No story, no matter how carefully recorded, can be one hundred per cent correct. However, care has been takes to avoid partiality or prejudice, and to present the truth with as close an attention to facts as possible. War diaries and Digests of Service have been used to arrive at a general gist of each battle, the dates and the timing, but where these were found not a match the reality of an event or situation, they have been altered. Interviews and group discussions have been recorded as insurance against controversy, and in no case has any individual account been accepted or event recorded without confirmation by two or more witnesses.
