Soon after the country became independent, Punjab governor Chandulal Trivedi issued a circular to all Deputy Commissioners directing them to deem the Sikhs migrating from what became Pakistan as criminal tribe and take harshest measures against them. Sirdar Kapur Singh raised a voice of protest, and he had to suffer for it. An extract from the case he filed in the Supreme Court, a copy of the letter from the Chief Minister Sampurana Nand of Uttar Pradesh, and other information in the book highlights the then government's prejudicial attitude towards the Sikhs who had made unparalleled sacrifices for the freedom of the country.
